This past Friday we wrapped up the first marking period of this school year. Report cards will be issued on Friday, November 11. This marking period we will be focusing our instruction on reading for information, addition and subtraction, animal studies, writing in complete sentences and familThis week there are two important date to note:
Tuesday, November 8 - No School/Professional Development for Teachers VOTE! Friday, November 11 - Half Day in recognition of Veteran's Day. Dismissal at 12:00 Thank you to all the parents who made out Halloween party a great success. We had a lot of fun dressing up, parading through the neighborhood and of course eating treats! I have posted pictures on the this site for you to enjoy. We have been fortunate over the past few weeks to have Mrs. Glass in our classroom helping with the instruction as the district worked out finances for our Reading Recovery program. I am both happy and sad to tell you that beginning this week she will go back to pulling students out of both first grade classes for reading intervention. I am happy that our students will be getting some intense intervention when needed, but we will miss her in class.
Your child can get a jump start on the next week's spelling words every Sunday by checking here. I generally post the upcoming week's words on Sunday morning. Also, don't forget to check out some class pictures on the "photos/videos" page of this website. You can access it from the top menu under "More". The newsletters I send home each week are also posted for your convenience. Have some fun and explore this website. I try to post new things regularly. Also, are you following our class on Twitter.com? Just search for @TeamBrackett Have a great week! It was wonderful to see so many parents at Open House this past week. Attending school functions shows your children just how important their education is to you. We are planning many opportunities for you to become involved in school.
If you did not attend and would like to view a little promotional video for the school, you can click on this link to see the P3A Open House movie. I apologize for being a day late getting out my class newsletter. It will go home on Monday, Sept. 26th. However, it has been uploaded here for your convenience. Wow! What a week. It has been great getting to meet all my new students and learn a little about them. We have lots of familiar faces that attended P3A kindergarten last year as well as some new faces. We spent this week learning about each other, about the rules for class and school and classroom routines. Did you see our Bookworm pictures in the hallway outside our room?
Next week we will begin our formal reading, math, science and social studies lessons. You can get a preview of next week's spelling words here. Look for homework to come home every night except Friday. Your child will also be expected to read for 20 minutes each night and complete a reading log. The 20 minutes can be either your child reading or someone reading to him/her. As we become better readers, more of the time should be your child reading to you. If you have any concerns, please don't hesitate to send me a note, call the school to leave a message (I'll call back, promise) or email me at cathleen.brackett Welcome to the start of a new year at P3A. I have not outgrown the excitement I felt as a child anticipating the starting of school each fall. I can't wait to meet the children and get to know them better. Just as important as getting to know your child, is meeting you and developing a plan for us to work together to make your child's year a successful one.
This is a new website so for now, there may not be a lot of information. However, I will be updating as often as possible, at least once a week but probably more than that for the first month of school. So check back frequently. My previous website is still available at www.teambrackett.shutterfly.com if you would like to check it out and see what last year looked like. Feel free to leave comments if they are of a general nature. If you would like to specifically discuss your child, please contact me by calling the school and leaving a message, send an email or a note with your child. I will return the call at my first availability.I make it a rule not to have conversations with parents during class time as every minute of instruction time is precious. I appreciate your cooperation in this. I can't wait to get started..... |
